The original decoration was established in 1918 and was awarded for exceptional bravery, courage and dedication in combat, as well as for outstanding service in defending the Soviet state.
The badge features the iconic red banner with “СССР”, the hammer and sickle, gilded wreath details and a red star at the base. Made of durable metal alloy with multicolour enamel, with a screw-back fastener and a stamped Монетный двор marking on the reverse.
